POST RACE ANALYSIS
Sunday April 17th 2011 was a sunny clear day with temperatures
reaching in the mid 80's in Corona California ... This was the 2nd
race of the UF1 Series and 15 drivers made the long trek out... Some
guys traveling over 2 hours one way for this event...
We had 10 drivers sign up for the Realistic class and 5 for the MOD
class.. This day provided quit an opportunity for some guys to
collect some points with some of the big hitters not making it out...
Notably Jonathan and Cuda...
Lets start off by talking about Mike Rydwell... His car was dialed,
consistent ALL day and he is the first driver to collect maximum
points in one day... 75, which now takes him to the top of the
championship standings... He obviously worked out that mechanical
issue he had a month prior at West Coast with his wheel falling off :)
2nd on the podium this day was a new comer to our series, Torrance De
Guzman... Running a HPI F10 which he built the week before on a track
he had never visited prior, he pulls out 50 points for the day... All
I can say is watch out Japan GP ( Tamiya ) ... It's looking like HPI
might have 2 cars on the podium...
3rd on the podium is Brett who is right behind Torrance in points in
the MOD class... His first race coming in 2nd place with 35 laps,
followed by 37 laps in the following race and something went terribly
wrong in the 3rd race with only 9 laps... Our DNF rule states you
must complete 8 laps .... Oh soooo close..
Hiro also running a HPI F10 collected 47 points for the day... There
was a unfortunate mistake in the pits on the 2nd race that caused
Hiro to pit 3 times costing him serious points... he would have
certainly been 2nd on podium ... Who would have guessed that Tamiya
wings are made of a mat plastic not suited well for adhesion.. from
this day forward , pit stickers will be placed on the hood..
Charles Lightfoot also collected 47 points in the realistic class...
Finishing 2nd in the first race, first place in the 2nd race but over
geared causing an over heated motor in the 3rd race only finishing
8th place with 4 points... This puts him 2nd overall in the
Championship race...
Mark Goldwater running a almost TCS spec car with a 21.5 motor grabbed
35 points , a much needed 35 points after his disappointing race day
at West coast which left him zero points... over all Mark is sitting
in a comfortable 12th place, with 6 races remaining there is no need
for stress...
Quincy had a pretty good day, running mid field and even coming into
3rd place on the final race of the day... he wasn't hit with any
mechanical issues and scored 33 points which puts him 3rd over all
for the Championship...
Marcos did incredibly well considering he was pushed into the MOD
class because of motor alone... His car was basically a Realistic
chassis... and also considering he DNF one of his races... collecting
30 points puts Marcos 14th overall in the series...
Carlos followed Marcos by 5 points for the day... his first race
wasn't too bad, but finished much better in the 2nd race and
unfortunately DNF the final race of the day loosing out on valuable
points...
Alen Yang was pretty consistent today finishing all his races but
just didn't have the pace as the rest of the field... His consistancy
and reliability is whats keeping Alen in 10th spot for the
championship...
Bill Levingson had a DNF in the first race but got his car working to
run mid field for the final two races of the day... pulling only 22
points for the day, but with a series that has no dropped points,
thats 22 points over everyone else who no showed :)
Nick P struggled all day with only 5 points total... Hopefully we will
see him back at the track pushing himself for more points next
time... There's only one place to go from here... up !
